Prototype Era
Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest
Built in 1961 by Newton Chambers, these unusual looking coaches were designed to carry up to 6 cars per coach (4 on the upper deck and 2 in the well between the bogies) with a maximum weight of 12 tons.
The coaches were fitted with vacuum brakes and steam pipes for heating and were mostly used on the overnight runs to Scotland.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

TCV Newton Chambers Car Carrier BR Blue/Grey Early E96297E
Heljan is set to release a new range of OO gauge rolling stock, featuring the Newton Chambers built car transporters used by British Railways Eastern Region in the 1960s.
The models will be available in a series of triple packs, with the first release featuring vehicles in BR Lined Maroon livery. The models will be highly detailed, with features such as finely applied livery details, NEM couplings, and a choice of early or late rooflight arrangements.
The Newton Chambers car transporters were built between 1960 and 1961 for use on the East Coast Main Line, and were originally designated as TCVs. They were later reclassified as NVV and NVX under BR's TOPS system. The vehicles featured a unique design, with a hydraulically operated central well capable of storing up to six cars.
The models will feature a range of details, including steam and dual heating parts, vacuum and dual braking parts, and fine bogie and underframe detail. Each vehicle in the pack will have authentic livery differences, allowing modellers to create a realistic train.
The Heljan models will be a welcome addition to any OO gauge collection, and will allow modellers to recreate the iconic car transporters of the 1960s.
