Manufacturer description

An Autocoach could often be seen being propelled down many branch lines by a variety of Auto fitted Locomotives. The driving cab on the Autocoach meant that the locomotive could be controlled from there and negated the requirement to run the locomotive round at the end of the journey.

These models are based on the six coaches numbered 36 to 41 constructed during 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N ’. They were built new as driving trailers and not later conversions from old steam rail motors. These coaches were used on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales and retained their gas lighting until they were withdrawn by November 1957.

MODEL
1:76 Scale model of a Autocoach decorated in GWR livery. This model features lots of expertly applied details as based on the prototype, a high level of body detail and excellent running characteristics.

Dapol Autocoach GWR Shirt Button 39 in chocolate and cream livery is a 1:76 scale model fitted with DCC sound. The coach includes interior lighting and carries the manufacturer part number 4P-004-004S. It represents the Big Four era, covering the period before the 1948 nationalisation of the railways.

The prototype autocoaches were built as driving trailers between 1907 and 1910 (coach numbers 36 to 41, Lot 1126, Diagram ‘N’). They operated on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales, retained gas lighting throughout their service, and were withdrawn by 30 November 1957.

Key features of the model include NEM couplings, finely moulded bogie frames with NEM profile wheels, sprung metal buffers, a removable roof for easy access to the interior, and an expertly applied GWR chocolate and cream livery. The body is highly detailed with many separate add‑on parts, and the model runs well on standard gauge track.

Specifications state the operator as GWR, the era as the Big Four (pre‑1948), and the minimum curve radius as 438 mm. The set consists of one Dapol coach.
