Manufacturer description

Prototype

Our model is based on the six coaches numbered 36 to 41 constructed during 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N ’. All were built new as driving trailers and not later conversions from old steam rail motors. They were used on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales and retained their gas lighting until withdrawn, the first in 1956, the last in November 1957. Number 38 is preserved on the Telford Steam Railway.

Dapol Autocoach GWR Shirt Button 39 is a 1:76 scale model of a Great Western Railway (GWR) autocoach in the chocolate and cream colour scheme. It carries the manufacturer part number 4P-004-004, is DCC ready and includes interior lighting. The model represents the Big Four era before 1948.

The autocoach is based on the six original coaches numbered 36 to 41 that were built in 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N’. These were constructed as driving trailers, not as conversions, and operated on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales. They retained gas lighting until withdrawal in November 1957.

Key features include NEM couplings, finely moulded bogie frames with NEM profile wheels, sprung metal buffers, a removable roof for easy access to crew and passengers, and an expertly applied GWR livery. The model has a high‑detail finish, many separately added parts, and runs well on a minimum radius of 438 mm. It is supplied as a single Dapol coach, with the operator listed as GWR and the era specified as the Big Four (pre‑1948).
