An Autocoach could often be seen being propelled down many branch lines by a variety of Auto fitted Locomotives. The driving cab on the Autocoach meant that the locomotive could be controlled from there and negated the requirement to run the locomotive round at the end of the journey.

These models are based on the six coaches numbered 36 to 41 constructed during 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N ’. They were built new as driving trailers and not later conversions from old steam rail motors. These coaches were used on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales and retained their gas lighting until they were withdrawn by November 1957.

Dapol Autocoach GWR 40 Lined Chocolate & Cream – DCC fitted is a 1:76 scale model of a Great Western Railway autocoach painted in the classic chocolate and cream livery. The model is built to represent the six original driving‑trailers (numbers 36 to 41) constructed in 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N’, which operated on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales until their withdrawal in November 1957.

The coach features a high‑level finish with expertly applied livery, interior lighting and a removable roof to allow easy placement of crew and passenger figures. It runs on finely moulded bogie frames with NEM profile wheels, includes sprung metal buffers, and is fitted with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings. The model is DCC fitted and ready for digital command control operation.

Technical specifications state a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (radius 2), power pickup from all wheels, and an operator designation of GWR during the Big Four era (pre‑1948). The model is supplied as a single Dapol coach, part number 4P‑004‑002D, representing the period 1904‑1954 when the original coaches were built at GWR Swindon Works.
