Manufacturer description

An Autocoach could often be seen being propelled down many branch lines by a variety of Auto fitted Locomotives. The driving cab on the Autocoach meant that the locomotive could be controlled from there and negated the requirement to run the locomotive round at the end of the journey.

These models are based on the six coaches numbered 36 to 41 constructed during 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N ’. They were built new as driving trailers and not later conversions from old steam rail motors. These coaches were used on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales and retained their gas lighting until they were withdrawn by November 1957.

MODEL
1:76 Scale model of a Autocoach decorated in GWR livery. This model features lots of expertly applied details as based on the prototype, a high level of body detail and excellent running characteristics.

Dapol Autocoach GWR Shirt Button 39 Chocolate & Cream – DCC fitted is a 1:76 scale model of a Great Western Railway autocoach in the chocolate and cream livery. The model carries the manufacturer part number 4P‑004‑004D and is fitted with Digital Command Control (DCC). Interior lighting is provided and the coach is supplied with NEM couplings, sprung metal buffers and a removable roof to allow easy placement of crew and passengers.

The prototype autocoach represented by the model belongs to the group of six coaches numbered 36 to 41 that were built in 1907 under Lot 1126 to Diagram ‘N’. These were constructed as new driving trailers and served on branch lines from Cornwall to Wales, retaining gas lighting until withdrawal in November 1957. The model reflects the Big Four era, covering the period before the 1948 nationalisation of the railway.

Key specifications include a minimum operating radius of 438 mm, finely moulded bogie frames with NEM profile wheels, a high‑detail finish with separately added parts and an expertly applied GWR livery. The product is marketed as a single Dapol coach, suitable for use on 1:76 scale layouts representing the pre‑1948 GWR network.
