Manufacturer description

The Class 68 is a new style of diesel-electric locomotive commissioned by DRS to haul both intermodal and passenger stock. The sleek design is based on the Vossloh Eurolight. The design meant that these locomotives are able to reach 100mph and due to the state of the art adhesion control system they have utilised the available traction power for both power and speed.

The Dapol Class 68 Vigilant (model number 68018) is a 12 V DC DCC‑ready model of the DRS‑branded Class 68 diesel‑electric locomotive. It represents the initial privatisation era of the class, which was built between 2013 and 2017 by Vossloh España and Stadler Rail. The prototype locomotive is capable of 100 mph and is used for both intermodal and passenger services, featuring an adhesion control system that optimises traction and speed.

The model measures 270 mm over the buffers, 34 mm wide and 49 mm high. It has a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement with cast wheels, a tungsten chassis, and all‑wheel power pickup. Details include a finely moulded body, etched grills, directional lighting, and printed external logos and numbers. The model is fitted with a 21‑pin DCC decoder, NEM coupling pockets, and a tension‑lock coupling system.

The kit is supplied in a pristine DRS Compass livery, with an accessory bag containing spares and optional detail parts. It is intended for the era from 2005 onwards and includes features such as interior lighting and a split‑type coupling. The model is suitable for use on standard British model railway layouts with a minimum radius curve of 1.
