Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The LNER J26 was built by the London North Eastern Railway company between 1904 and 1905. They were based on the earlier P2 class but featured a slightly improved boiler pressure and tractive effort. 50 of these locomotives were built in total, 30 were built at the Darlington works and 20 at the Gateshead works. They all lasted into BR ownership but were all scrapped with none of them surviving into preservation.

Oxford Class J26 LNER 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive No.1057 is a model from the 2020 range, presented in a pristine black finish with the original LNER livery. The locomotive carries the running number 5738 and is named W.P. Allen. It is DCC ready with a 21‑pin socket and is fitted with NEM couplings.
The model measures 208 mm over the buffers and can negotiate a minimum curve of the 2nd radius (438 mm). It operates on 12 V DC track power and does not include directional lighting, interior lighting, a pickup in the tender, passenger figures or a motor description.
The prototype locomotive was built between 1904 and 1905, with a total production run of 50 engines. Designed by Wilson Worsdell and ordered by the London & North Eastern Railway, the class served for 16 years before being withdrawn in December 1964. None of the original locomotives were preserved. This model represents the Big Four era of British railways.
