Hornby model SR Luggage Van 2471 – Era 3 is a 00 gauge replica of a Southern Railway gangwayed bogie luggage van built in the early 1930s. The model measures 250 mm in length, is finished in a pristine SR olive‑green livery and carries the running number 2471. It is unpowered, fitted with a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor and uses a NEM coupling; the wheel arrangement comprises two bogies.
Technical details include a minimum curve radius of the second radius (438 mm), a manufacturer part number R60020A and representation of the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR). The model is supplied in a green colour and adheres to the original Southern Railway design specifications.
The prototype arose from a surplus of ex‑LSWR underframes left over from 1927–28, when many former LSWR Bogie Block 4‑coach sets were converted to EMUs on newer 62‑ft underframes. These spare underframes were repurposed to construct the new Gangwayed Bogie Luggage Vans (GBL) for the Southern Railway.
