Manufacturer description

The British Railways Standard Mark 2 coach was first introduced in 1963 and the semi-integral construction dispensed with a separate underframe, giving the body greater strength and stiffness than the previous BR Standard Mk.1 stock.

Certified for 100mph running, this was later increased to 110mph and the design of the coach evolved over the next ten years, culminating in the Mk.2F design that was built between 1973 and 1975; a stop gap measure produced until the British Rail Mk.3 coach could be introduced into service. Despite this, the Mk.2F coaches are still currently in traffic with Abellio ScotRail, being used on the Fife Circle Line with Class 68 haulage.

Hornby ScotRail Mk2F Standard Open 6176 (Era 10) is a OO‑gauge model coach in painted ScotRail Saltire livery. It measures 2,680 mm in length, carries the running number 6176 and is equipped with NEM / Tension‑lock couplings. The model represents a British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) Mark 2F Standard Open coach, classified as SO, with a minimum curve radius of 2.

The real Mark 2F coaches were built between 1973 and 1975 as a stop‑gap before the introduction of the Mark 3 type. They feature semi‑integral construction, giving the body greater strength than earlier Mark 1 stock, and were originally certified for 100 mph, later raised to 110 mph. Designed by BREL, they remain in service with Abellio ScotRail on the Fife Circle Line, normally hauled by Class 68 locomotives.
