Hornby BR Merchant Navy Class 4‑6‑2 model, part number R3649, represents locomotive 35029 ‘Ellerman Lines’. It is an OO gauge, DCC ready model with an 8‑pin socket and a 5‑pole skew wound motor. The locomotive measures 285 mm in length and is finished in pristine condition with a lined green livery and early British Railways crest. It rides on a 2nd radius curve of 438 mm and uses a 4‑6‑2 wheel arrangement.
The model is based on the steam locomotive built by SR Eastleigh Works between 1941 and 1949 and introduced to service in 1949. It carries the early British Railways emblem and the livery used by the operator, British Railways. The prototype entered traffic on 19 February 1949 at Bournemouth, was officially named at Southampton Docks on 1 March 1951 by Mr A.F Hull, chairman of the Ellerman Lines company, and was allocated to Dover in October 1949.
The prototype was selected to haul the Danish royal train from Dover Marine to London Victoria for the state visit of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid in May 1951. The Hornby model faithfully reproduces these historic details.
