History
One of 30 âMerchant Navyâ Class âPacificsâ built at the SRâs Eastleigh Works between 1941 and 1949, âFrench Line CTGâ emerged in June 1945 in malachite green livery as No. 21C19. The class was given names of merchant shipping companies associated with Southampton Docks, of which CTG â Compagnie GĂ©nĂ©rale Transatlantique â was one, though it was widely known simply as âFrench Lineâ.Â
The locomotive became BR No. 35019 in 1948 and was fitted with the new style wedge-shape cab and turned out in express passenger blue. It was rebuilt in May 1959, this time in BR lined green livery, which it wore until withdrawal from Weymouth shed in September 1965.
