Prototype Era
Era 7 (1972 to 1982) British Rail Blue (TOPS)
A total of 996 of the diesel electric shunters were built at various BR works between 1952 and 1962. As the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter, the type became a common sight at major stations and freight yards across the country.
The locomotive this example is based on started life as 13326 in November 1956, having been completed at Darlington, and was new to New England, Peterborough. It later served at Sheffield Darnall, Tinsley, Finsbury Park, Hitchin, Startford and finally, from May 1968 at Colchester, from where it was withdrawn in February 1984. It was cut-up at Doncaster Works by January the following year.
Our RailRoad range is more durable than our standard range, making it perfect for beginners, children, and the most enthusiastic of model railway runners. Plus, it's been pre-fitted with a DCC sound chip for HM700 control.

Hornby RailRoad BR Class 08 – 08256 (DCC sound fitted). The model carries the manufacturer part number R30546TXS and represents a locomotive in British Rail Blue (TOPS) livery.
A total of 996 Class 08 diesel‑electric shunters were constructed at various British Rail works between 1952 and 1962. As the standard BR general‑purpose diesel shunter, the type was a common sight at major stations and freight yards throughout the United Kingdom.
The prototype for this model was built as locomotive 13326 in November 1956 at Darlington and entered service at New England, Peterborough. It subsequently worked at Sheffield Darnall, Tinsley, Finsbury Park, Hitchin, Startford and, from May 1968, at Colchester. The engine was withdrawn in February 1984 and was cut‑up at Doncaster Works by January 1985.
The RailRoad range is designed to be more durable than the standard range, making it suitable for beginners, children and experienced model railway operators. The model is pre‑fitted with a DCC sound chip compatible with Hornby HM700 control.
