Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The GWR pioneered the use of diesel railcars for passenger traffic in the 1930s. The most numerous variant was the batch built in 1940-42 with its distinctive angular ‘razor edge’ bodywork. Employed on branch lines and local services, they were the perfect single vehicle passenger train and continued to provide sterling service until replaced by BR DMUs in the early-1960s. This model features separately switchable headlamps, tail lights, saloon and cab lights and a fully detailed interior.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Heljan GWR Diesel Parcels Railcar is a model of a British Railways diesel railcar, specifically the chocolate and cream livery version with the coat of arms on a dark grey roof. The model is 200mm in length and features a 21-pin socket for DCC operation.
This model is a representation of the AEC Diesel Railcar, a class of vehicle built by AEC in collaboration with the Great Western Railway's Swindon Works between 1940 and 1942. A total of 15 vehicles were produced, designed for local and branch line passenger and parcels services.
The model is DCC ready, with features including separately switchable headlamps, tail lights, saloon and cab lights, and a fully detailed interior. The vehicle has a minimum radius curve of 2 and features power pickup on all wheels, as well as NEM/Tension lock couplings.
The AEC Diesel Railcars were a pioneering use of diesel railcars for passenger traffic in the 1930s, employed on branch lines and local services until they were replaced by British Railways diesel multiple units in the early 1960s.
