The majority of these tank wagons were built between 1939 and 1944 as Class A wagons for aviation fuel, being 17ft-6inch long on a 10ft wheelbase fitted with RCH either side braking and split oil axle boxes. The tank was 7ft-2inch diameter containing 4275 gallons saddle mounted with two small platforms on the top of the tank. After the war and around 1947, surplus tank wagons were converted to Class B fitted with heating coils to help discharge of viscous fuel and bottom discharge. All Class A tanks had gone out of service by 1971 with the last B Class tank following in 1973.

14t Class B Tank Wagon Shell-Esso Black 1914
The Dapol 14T Tank Wagon Class B Berry Wiggins Black 101 is a model of a 14-ton tank wagon. It represents a Class B wagon, which was converted from surplus Class A wagons in the late 1940s. These wagons were originally built between 1939 and 1944 for aviation fuel transport, featuring a 7ft-2inch diameter tank containing 4275 gallons of fuel. The Class B conversion added heating coils to facilitate the discharge of viscous fuel.
The model features a detailed and accurate body shell and chassis, including many separately added fine details such as platforms and ladders. It is fitted with a NEM coupling and finely profiled wheels, and has a full sprung chassis. The livery is superbly applied, representing the 'Berry Wiggins' scheme.
The model is suitable for a minimum radius curve of 1 metre, and is designed for use under British Railways Late Crest period. The running number is 101.
