Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 155 diesel multiple unit (DMU) was introduced in 1987–1988. Built by Leyland at Workington, 42 two-car units were produced using construction methods from the bus-building industry. Shortly after entering service, structural faults, including body cracks, led to the fleet being temporarily withdrawn. Rather than restoring them as two-car sets, British Rail split 35 units into single vehicles, creating the Class 153 between 1991 and 1992. These single-car units were suited to rural and lightly used routes. Just seven units were retained by West Yorkshire PTE and remain in service with Northern. Although short-lived in original form, the Class 155 remains an interesting part of British railway history.

Accurascale’s Class 155 model is a 1:76 (OO) scale, DCC‑enabled diesel multiple unit, supplied in West Yorkshire PTE livery. The kit carries the manufacturer part number ACC3521‑DCC and is fitted with DCC sound equipment as standard. The model is intended to represent the unit as it appeared during the initial privatisation era of British railways.

The real British Rail Class 155 entered service in 1987–1988, built by Leyland at Workington using bus‑building construction techniques. A total of 42 two‑car sets were produced. Early in their career the units suffered structural problems, notably body cracks, leading to a temporary withdrawal from service. Between 1991 and 1992 the fleet was re‑formed as single‑car vehicles, reclassified as Class 153, to serve rural and lightly used routes.

Although the original two‑car configuration had a brief operational life, the Class 155 remains a notable example of late‑British‑Railway DMU design and is reflected in this detailed, sound‑fitted Accurascale model.
