Manufacturer description

The British Rail Class 155 diesel multiple unit (DMU) was introduced in 1987–1988. Built by Leyland at Workington, 42 two-car units were produced using construction methods from the bus-building industry. Shortly after entering service, structural faults, including body cracks, led to the fleet being temporarily withdrawn. Rather than restoring them as two-car sets, British Rail split 35 units into single vehicles, creating the Class 153 between 1991 and 1992. These single-car units were suited to rural and lightly used routes. Just seven units were retained by West Yorkshire PTE and remain in service with Northern. Although short-lived in original form, the Class 155 remains an interesting part of British railway history.

The Accurascale Accurascale Class 155 – Provincial (product code ACC3515-DCC) is a 1:76 (OO) scale model of a British Rail Class 155 diesel multiple unit, fitted with DCC sound. It carries the Provincial livery and represents the period of British Rail sectorisation.

The real Class 155 DMU entered service in 1987‑1988, having been built by Leyland at Workington using bus‑building construction techniques. After delivery, structural problems such as body cracking led to a temporary withdrawal of the fleet. Between 1991 and 1992 the two‑car units were split into single‑car vehicles, which were reclassified as Class 153 units for use on rural and lightly used routes.

The model reflects these historical details, providing a detailed replica of a short‑lived but notable part of British railway history.
