Accurascale Class 142 – Northern – 142070 is a ready‑to‑run DCC model (DCC Ready) depicting a Northern Rail diesel multiple unit of the British Rail Class 142. The model carries the official Northern Rail livery, is listed under manufacturer part number ACC3399 and represents the initial privatisation era of the fleet.
The prototype corresponds to unit 142070 (derived from numbers 55720 and 55766), which originally served with First North Western before being transferred to Northern Rail. It operated primarily on routes between Chester, Sheffield, Carlisle and Newcastle during the late 2000s, retaining the classic Leyland bus‑style 2+3 seating arrangement and a variety of refurbishment levels inherited from previous operators.
Features of the model include the purple, blue and grey Northern colour scheme, period‑accurate bicycle and disabled stickers on the hopper vents, the extra cab front louvre, plated roof heating vents, factory‑fitted NRN roof pods and sanding equipment. The real unit was repainted in 2009 and was scrapped at EMR Kingsbury on 20 January 2020.
