The Rapido GNoSR ‘F’ Class / LNER D40 No 49 ‘Thistle’ is a 1 : 76 (OO gauge) model of a Great North of Scotland Railway 4‑4‑0 locomotive. It represents the ‘What‑If’ lined blue livery of No 49 and includes a reconstructed GNoSR smokebox door, square running‑plate valance, short covered Ramsbottom safety valves and late‑type tender springs with dampers. The model is equipped for both Westinghouse and vacuum braking and is suitable for running on second‑radius curves of 438 mm or greater.

The locomotive’s mechanical and electronic features comprise a smooth and powerful running mechanism, dynamic firebox flicker, a 21‑pin DCC decoder socket, MoPower stay‑alive capacitors, factory‑fitted speakers, sprung buffers, NEM coupler pockets and a museum‑quality paint finish. Optional detailing bags provide additional lamps, steam‑heating pipes and tablet catchers for personalised assembly.

Historically, the real‑world F Class locomotives were built between 1910 and 1919 for the GNoSR, later incorporated into the LNER as D40s, and the final survivor (No 62277 Gordon Highlander) was withdrawn in 1958. Rapido’s range covers both saturated‑boiler F Class and superheated V Class variants, offering a selection of liveries from pre‑grouping to British Railways.
