Manufacturer description

Built at Swindon Works under Lot No. 278 in December 1932, Diagram A10 Class 61xx 'Large Prairie' No. 6145 entered traffic at Old Oak Common, employed on London suburban services, even over London Underground metals.

Class 61xx locomotives were the mainstays of the Thames Valley suburban services until replaced by DMUs, illustrated by 6145's allocations to Old Oak Common, Slough and Oxford sheds.

Hornby BR Class 61xx “Large Prairie” model, number 6145, is an OO gauge 2‑6‑2T steam locomotive. The locomotive is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket, fitted with a 5‑pole skew wound motor and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (second radius). The model measures 165 mm in length, has a pristine black finish with the early British Railways emblem, and picks up power from all wheels. It is supplied under part number R3723.

The model represents a locomotive built by GWR Swindon Works between 1931 and 1935, designed by Charles Collett and introduced in 1932. The real Class 61xx “Large Prairie” locomotives were constructed in a total of 70 units and were employed on Thames Valley suburban services, with allocations to Old Oak Common, Slough and Oxford sheds, before being superseded by DMUs. This particular unit, built under Lot No 278 in December 1932, entered traffic at Old Oak Common and was used on London suburban routes, including services that ran over London Underground track.
