Hornby John Dewar & Sons R&H 48DS model (model number 0‑4‑0, part number R3705) is a 55 mm OO‑scale representation of a Ruston & Hornsby 48DS diesel locomotive built in 1931. The model is DCC ready with a 6‑pin socket, uses a 3‑pole skew‑wound motor and can pick up power from all wheels. It is fitted with NEM couplings with tension lock and a 6‑pin Nano decoder, which is not compatible with the R7150 decoder. The locomotive is finished in a pristine red livery and carries the running number 458957.
The prototype left Boultham Works on 6 July 1961 as one of the last ten 48DS locomotives built. It was purchased by John Dewar & Sons for service at the Inveralmond distillery until the plant closed in 1994. After being saved for preservation, the locomotive now operates at Bridge of Dun station on the Caledonian Railway, where it is named Dewar Highlander.
This model represents the British Rail sectorisation period and is intended for collectors and railway enthusiasts seeking an accurate OO‑scale diesel locomotive.
