Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
Built at Crewe in 1938 as the last of the streamlined 'Coronations', Duchess of Hamilton entered service on September 10th. At the same time, the LMSR had accepted an invitation from the organizers of the World's Fair in New York to send a streamlined train out to the exposition. As the newest of the 'Coronations', 6229 was selected, the name and numbers being swapped between 6229 Duchess of Hamilton and 6220 Coronation.
Please Note: Steam pipes fitted for display only. Various detail components can be customer fitted, including the drain cocks.
Please be aware that you should not permanently fit any parts until you are certain that there will be no fouling during use. Depending on layout configuration some detail components are only suitable for fitting if the model is on static display.

Class 8P 4-6-2 Streamlined Coronation 6229 Duchess of Hamilton in LMS crimson lake (Gloss Finish) - as preserved
Hornby LMS Princess Coronation Class 4‑6‑2 locomotive, model 6229 ‘Duchess of Hamilton’, is an OO gauge, DCC ready model with an 8‑pin socket. The model measures 299 mm in length, has a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor, NEM coupling and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius). The finish is described as pristine and the livery is Crimson Lake, matching the original British railway colour.
The locomotive represents the LMS ‘Princess Coronation’ class built by Crewe Works between 1937 and 1948, of which 38 were produced. The prototype was constructed in 1938, entered service on 10 September 1938 and was the last of the streamlined Coronations. It was originally selected for the World’s Fair exhibition in New York, with its name and number briefly swapped with locomotive 6220 Coronation.
The model includes steam pipes that are fitted for display only; various detail components such as drain cocks can be fitted by the customer, but should not be permanently attached until clearance for operation has been confirmed. The model is intended for use on static display or on layouts where the added detail does not cause fouling.
