Manufacturer description

Originally new from Vulcan Foundry in February 1965 as D6966, the locomotive this RailRoad model is based on became 37266 under the TOPS numbering system in 1974. 

Its career started at Tinsley, Sheffield and it also had postings at Stratford and Landore under BR. In January 1986 it was reclassified to 37/4 and renumbered 37422. 

The locomotive has worn several liveries and had several different operators, including EWS, DB Schenker, and DRS. It became part of the Harry Needle Railroad Company spot hire fleet based at Barrow Hill, which was taken over by Swietelsky, an Austrian-based railway construction and maintenance contractor, in January 2025. The locomotive was named ‘Pegasus’ later the same year. 

This OO gauge locomotive version is pre-fitted with a sound chip for the most authentic model railway experience.

Hornby RailRoad Rail Services – Class 37 “Pegasus” 37422 (DCC Sound Fitted) is an OO‑scale model of a British diesel‑electric locomotive. The model carries the manufacturer part number R30544TXS and represents the rebuilding era of the British railways.

The prototype was built at Vulcan Foundry in February 1965 as D6966 and received the TOPS number 37266 in 1974. It was allocated initially to Tinsley, Sheffield, and later served at Stratford and Landore under British Rail. In January 1986 the locomotive was reclassified as a 37/4 and renumbered 37422. Over its working life it operated in several liveries for owners including EWS, DB Schenker and DRS, before joining the Harry Needle Railroad Company spot‑hire fleet at Barrow Hill. The fleet was taken over by Austrian contractor Swietelsky in January 2025, and the locomotive was named “Pegasus” later that year.

The Hornby model is pre‑fitted with a DCC sound chip, providing realistic audio effects for use on model railway layouts.
