First introduced in 1872, by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway, by 1880, 50 of these ‘A1’ Class 0-6-0T locomotives were built at Brighton Locomotive Works to the design of William Stroudley. This one started out numbered 43 and named ‘Gipsyhill’ on 15 June 1877 and was subsequently renumbered 643 by the LB&SCR.
It went on to be rebuilt to ‘A1X’ in 1919, but was sold by the Southern Railway for £785 to the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead Light Railway in December 1925, famously entering GWR stock in 1940. It passed into nationalisation but was withdrawn in January 1950 and scrapped at Swindon in March 1954.

The model measures 105 mm in length, has metal buffers and a NEM coupling, and can negotiate a minimum 2nd radius curve of 438 mm. It is supplied with a die‑cast body and chassis for added weight and realism.
Features include a precision‑engineered coreless motor, all‑wheel pick‑ups, brass connector rods with metal securing pins, a detailed cab interior with painted instrument dials, a flush smokebox door, Stroudley chimney and Westinghouse pump, and an accessory pack. The pivoting NEM sockets aid coupling on tight curves.
