Prototype Era
Era 11 (2016 to 2026) The Last Days of Privatisation
This hybrid train pack represents the final months of HST operation with East Midland Railway in 2021, when 43274 became the first and only Class 43 to carry the interim EMR purple aubergine livery.
Owned by Colas, it is still in service today. Meanwhile, 43102 was turned out in retro InterCity ‘Swallow’ livery in February 2021, recalling its record-setting feat with 43159, when they became the world’s fastest diesel locomotives attaining a speed of 148.5mph in November 1987. Withdrawn in May 2021, it is now part of the National Collection and on display at Shildon.
Our models feature NEM tension lock couplings, with the EMR locomotive sporting a stylish purple livery and the Intercity train painted in the iconic grey and white colours.

Hornby East Midlands Railway – Class 43 HST – EMR & Intercity – Train Pack is supplied under manufacturer part number R30505 and represents the current era.
The pack includes a model of locomotive 43274, which carries the interim EMR purple livery. This unit depicts the final months of High Speed Train operation with East Midlands Railway in 2021. It is owned by Colas and remains in service.
The second model depicts locomotive 43102 in the retro InterCity “Swallow” livery, released in February 2021. The livery commemorates the record‑setting performance achieved with 43159 in November 1987, when the pair reached a speed of 148.5 mph. The locomotive was withdrawn in May 2021, is now part of the National Collection and is displayed at Shildon.
Both models feature NEM tension‑lock couplings; the EMR locomotive is finished in the distinctive purple colour, while the Intercity unit carries the traditional grey and white colour scheme.
