Era 11 (2016 to 2026) The Last Days of Privatisation
The Class 43 HST Power Cars have been a mainstay of the Hornby OO and TT:120 ranges for many years and we are delighted to announce this special commemorative train pack in OO Gauge, depicting 43128 and 43135 in ScotRail ‘InterCity 7’ livery, which are still in service as part of the last HST fleet in passenger operation in the UK.
Based on the refreshed tooling suite and featuring working directional and cab lights, working roof fans, 5-pole motor with twin flywheels in the motorised car, diecast chassis and numerous separately fitted parts, this train pack is a must-have for collectors and fans of this classic British design. This train pack is DCC Sound Fitted with a sound decoder in both power cars.

History:
Introduced in 1975, the production HSTs revolutionised long-distance passenger travel in Britain. In total, 197 production power cars were built by BREL at Crewe, along with almost 850 Mk3 coaches built in Derby, to form 7-9 coach trains between two power cars.
Initially used on the GWR, they were also used in large numbers on the Midland Mainline, Cross Country and ECML InterCity services operating at speeds of up to 125mph. Incredibly long-lived, they were eventually deemed too expensive and outdated to operate on the majority of British mainlines, finally being replaced by modern units like the Hitachi IEP units in the 2020s.
The last remaining operator of HSTs is ScotRail, where short-form sets have operated its Inter7City services across Scotland since 2018. Power car 43128 and 43135 operated with GWR before they were refurbished and moved to Scotland where they now wear the distinctive ‘Seven Cities of Scotland Skyline’ livery.

ScotRail - Class 43 HST - Train Pack
Hornby ScotRail Class 43 HST Train Pack (DCC Sound Fitted) is a commemorative OO‑gauge model representing the current‑era power cars 43128 and 43135 in ScotRail InterCity 7 livery. Both cars are supplied as a twin pack: one motorised power car and one unmotorised dummy car, each built on a die‑cast chassis with a range of separately fitted components such as cab handrails, underframe equipment and a roof exhaust shroud.
The motorised car houses a 5‑pole motor with twin flywheels and is capable of hauling full‑length HST rakes. Electrical pick‑ups are provided on both bogies and the models feature pivoting NEM coupling sockets and an accessory pack for operation on minimum second‑radius curves. The cab interior is detailed, and the roof fan and directional cab lights operate realistically.
Both power cars contain 21‑pin HM7000 sound decoders and speakers, delivering high‑fidelity recordings made from live Class 43 locomotives. Space is allocated for an HM7070 power bank to ensure uninterrupted running. The models also have working roof fans and revised marker lights, with a semi‑gloss finish that accurately reproduces the blue and grey ScotRail InterCity 7 colour scheme and fonts.
Introduced in 1975, the HST fleet transformed long‑distance passenger travel in Britain. After decades of service on routes such as the Great Western Railway, Midland Mainline and the East Coast Main Line, the remaining HSTs are operated by ScotRail, where the two power cars now run short‑form Inter7City services across Scotland. The Hornby pack reflects this current heritage, making it a relevant addition for collectors of contemporary British railway models.
