Prototype Era
Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest

Manufacturer description

Built at the Crewe works under number 4907 and entering service in November 1945, the locomotive was initially based at Crewe North engine shed. In August 1949, this engine was renumbered to 44907 and given the BR mixed traffic paintwork, the condition which this model represents.

The Stanier ‘Black Five’ was among the most successful 4-6-0 ‘Mixed Traffic’ designs, equally at home on passenger work as freight, and used the length and breadth of the country, other than in deepest ‘Southern’ territory.

Eighteen examples have been preserved, but No. 44907 wasn’t one of the lucky ones, being withdrawn at Liverpool’s ‘8A’ Edge Hill shed in November 1967 and broken up at Cashmore’s in Newport in June 1968.

This model features a powerful 5-pole skew-wound motor, a flickering firebox and working lamps, and is designed to be fully compatible with the HM7000 21-Pin decoder for full DCC, sound and lighting control.
