Hornby LMS Black 5, model number R3596, is a limited‑edition replica produced for the National Railway Museum (Locomotion Models). It represents a London, Midland & Scottish Railway 5 “Black Five” locomotive in a lined black livery and carries the running number 5000. The model is finished in pristine condition and is supplied with an eight‑pin DCC‑ready socket.

The locomotive measures 256 mm in length and uses a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor. Power is collected via both the driving wheels and the tender wheels. It can negotiate a minimum radius of 438 mm (second radius) and is fitted with a driving‑wheel power pickup. The model is steam‑powered and accurately reproduces the 4‑6‑0 wheel arrangement designed by William Stanier and built between 1934 and 1951 by LMS Crewe, Derby & Horwich Works, Vulcan Foundry and Armstrong Whitworth, of which 842 were produced.

The Hornby model reflects the “Big Four” era of British railways, representing the LMS company alongside its historic rivals LNER, GWR and SR. It is intended for collectors and railway enthusiasts who wish to display a historically accurate example of a mid‑20th‑century British steam locomotive.
