The romance of the railways in the United Kingdom was arguably at its best when hundreds of minor railway lines traversed the countryside. In those days the locomotive drivers would have unscheduled stops along the line picking up or dropping off goods as they meandered from village to village. So it is not surprising that some of the local inhabitants who relied upon the railway called their local train 'Valley Drifter'.

This set includes: 

• a brightly coloured model steam locomotive, 
• a coach and a wagon, 
• a Hornby MidiMat 
• and an oval of track which can be enlarged to a simple but effective layout with the addition of Hornby Track and Accessory Packs.

This Hornby Train Set is based on a Railroad specification. Railroad models are carefully designed to be less easily damaged yet maintaining attractive detailing and accurate liveries.

The Hornby Valley Drifter Train Set is a model railway item from the 2021 range. It features a locomotive with a 3 pole motor and a minimum radius curve of 371mm. The train is painted red and has a Freelance livery, with a gauge of OO and a finish of painted. The couplings are tension lock type and it is DCC compatible but does not have a socket for a decoder.

The set includes a Hornby MidiMat and an oval of track, which can be expanded with additional Hornby Track and Accessory Packs to create a simple layout.
