Heljan Class 16 North British Type 1 D8401 is a limited edition OO gauge model, released in a run of 750 units. The locomotive is finished in British Rail green with a late crest and small yellow panels, and carries the running number D8401. It is supplied in pristine condition, ready for digital command control via a 21‑pin socket, and features directional lighting, power pickup from all wheels and a NEM coupling. The model is capable of navigating a minimum radius of 438 mm (2nd radius) and represents a diesel‑powered Bo‑Bo locomotive built in 1958.

The prototype British Rail Class 16 was built by North British Locomotive Co at Glasgow for British Railways, with only ten examples produced. It was withdrawn in September 1968 after ten years of service, had a maximum speed of 60 mph and carried the late British Rail crest. The Heljan model bears the manufacturer part number 1601 and accurately depicts the period represented by the British Railways late crest livery.
