Manufacturer description

The 4 plank wagon was built in the early 1900s by the GWR to determine which design would make the best general purpose open wagon. Two hundred wagons were built in total, however the design was not considered a success as the slightly later built 5 plank wagon, with its higher sides was found to be more versatile.

The Dapol 4 Plank Wagon in unadorned form is a model designed for OO gauge enthusiasts. It is 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 28mm in height. This model has a minimum recommended radius curve of one, allowing for installation on a variety of model railway layouts.

This model represents a wagon built by the Great Western Railway in the early 1900s as part of an experiment to determine the most suitable design for a general-purpose open wagon. Although 200 wagons were produced, the design was ultimately deemed unsuccessful, as the 5 plank wagon, with higher sides, proved more versatile. As such, this model represents the only batch of 4 plank wagons ever constructed.

Key features of the model include a highly detailed body, finely moulded profiled wheels, and NEM pockets with self-centring couplings. These features contribute to a realistic representation of the original wagon.
