Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)

Manufacturer description

The 4 plank wagon was built in the early 1900s by the GWR to determine which design would make the best general purpose open wagon. Two hundred wagons were built in total, however the design was not considered a success as the slightly later built 5 plank wagon, with its higher sides was found to be more versatile. As a consequence, this first batch was the only batch ever made.

Dapol has released a new OO gauge model of a 4 plank Hudson Bros wagon. The wagon is depicted in the livery of Hudson Bros, a company that was a major user of this type of wagon. The model features a minimum operating radius of 1:32, allowing it to navigate tighter curves.

The model boasts a highly detailed design, with profiled wheels and an accurately applied livery. The body is finely moulded and features a realistic load. The wagon is also equipped with NEM pockets and self-centring couplings, making it easy to pair with other models.

The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 28mm in height. It is designed to represent a wagon from the Big Four era, which spanned the period from the early 20th century to the grouping of the railways in 1948.
