The BR Class 22 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel locomotive designed for the Western Region of BR and built by NBL. The Class has been nicknamed the Baby Warship due to their similarity to the Warship Class 42 locomotive. Fifty seven locomotives were built between 1959 and 1962 and operated in the West of England hauling both passengers and freight. The class was eventually displaced by the more powerful and reliable Hymeks and Warships, exacerbated by the bankruptcy of NBL in 1962 and the consequential lack of spares. By 1971 all had been decommissioned and none survived into preservation. Dapols’ OO model was produced after years of extensive study of plans and drawings and by collaborative work with various locomotive experts.
The Dapol OO Class 22 features:
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Dapol Class 22 diesel locomotive model is a detailed representation of the real-life Class 22, a type of BO-BO diesel locomotive built by the North British Locomotive Co for British Railways. The model features a BR blue livery and a minimum radius curve of 2.
Key features of the model include a detailed body with etched grilles and separately fitted handrails, finely detailed cast wheels, and metal sprung buffers. The motor is a 5 pole Super creep motor with twin brass fly wheels, allowing for controlled pulling power and slow running speed.
The model is DCC fitted with a 21 pin decoder and has provision for a sound speaker. A sound fitted option is also available. The model comes with an accessory bag containing optional fitted components, including valances.
The real-life Class 22 locomotives were built between 1959 and 1962 and operated in the Western Region of BR, hauling passengers and freight. The class was eventually phased out and all locomotives were decommissioned by 1971.
