Manufacturer description
The BR Class 22 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel locomotive designed for the Western Region of BR and built by NBL. The Class has been nicknamed the Baby Warship due to their similarity to the Warship Class 42 locomotive. Fifty seven locomotives were built between 1959 and 1962 and operated in the West of England hauling both passengers and freight.
The class was eventually displaced by the more powerful and reliable Hymeks and Warships, exacerbated by the bankruptcy of NBL in 1962 and the consequential lack of spares. By 1971 all had been decommissioned and none survived into preservation.

Dapol Class 22 D6331 is a 00‑scale model of the British Rail Class 22 diesel locomotive, finished in pristine condition with a green livery and the running number D6331. The model represents a locomotive built between 1959 and 1962 by the North British Locomotive Company, of which 58 were produced for British Railways. It is equipped with a 21‑pin DCC socket, all‑wheel power pickup, directional lighting, interior cab lighting and NEM/tension‑lock couplings. The locomotive is modelled with a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, a minimum curve radius of 2, sprung buffers, cast wheels in appropriate colour, etched grills and a coreless motor for smooth operation. A spares bag containing additional detailing parts is included.
The real‑world Class 22, nicknamed the “Baby Warship”, served the Western Region of British Railways, hauling passenger and freight trains at a maximum speed of 75 mph. The class was withdrawn by 1971 following the arrival of more powerful Hymek and Warship locomotives and the collapse of its builder, NBL, which halted spare‑part supplies. No original examples survived into preservation.
Optional DCC fitting services are available. To have an Imperium1 decoder fitted, add the item IMPERIUM1FIT to the basket; the decoder itself can be purchased separately by adding Imperium1. All dates are presented in the British format (day/month/year).
