MODEL FEATURES:
The LNER Class V2 steam locomotives were designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for express mixed traffic work and were built between 1936-1944. The V2s were the only significant class of 2-6-2 tender locomotives used in Britain.
184 locomotives were built at Doncaster and Darlington Works, construction continuing through the Second World War as they proved their usefulness. The V2 was developed from the Class A1/A3 Pacifics with smaller driving wheels and a shortened boiler. During WW2, the V2 locomotives achieved fantastic performances of haulage. Trains of over 20 carriages loaded to 700 tons proved within their abilities.
The most famous locomotive of the Class is No. 4771 ‘Green Arrow’ (later No. 800 and 60800). ‘Green Arrow’ was the first of the Class named for publicity purposes for the launch of the LNER’s express freight services and is the only preserved example, part of the National Collection.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Bachmann Branchline LNER Class V2 4791 is an OO‑scale model released in the 2018 range. The locomotive is finished in the original Apple/Doncaster Green lined livery with silver lining and carries the running number 4791. It measures 280 mm in length and is supplied with a 21‑pin DCC decoder socket, a pre‑fitted speaker and a 5‑pole motor. The model includes fire‑box glow on analogue operation and both glow and flicker effects when equipped with DCC, as well as a semi‑permanent loco‑to‑tender coupling with close‑coupling mechanism, NEM coupling pockets, sprung buffers and an optional alternative flanged Cartazzi wheelset. A sound‑fitted version (item 35‑200SF) is also available.
The model represents a London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) Class V2 steam locomotive, a 2‑6‑2 mixed‑traffic engine designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built between 1936 and 1944. A total of 184 were produced at Doncaster and Darlington Works for the LNER, the only significant class of 2‑6‑2 tender locomotives in Britain. During the Second World War the class proved capable of hauling trains of over 20 carriages, weighing up to 700 tons. The most famous member of the class is No 4771 “Green Arrow”, the sole surviving example preserved in the National Collection.
