Accurascale has unveiled a new OO gauge version of the British Rail Class 58 diesel‑electric locomotive.
Known as "Bones" because of their slim proportions and full‑width cabs, the Class 58 began service in 1983. Produced by BREL at Doncaster Works, these engines were crafted to haul heavy merry‑go‑round coal traffic, moving coal between collieries and power stations across the country.
The new release is part of the manufacturer’s “Powering Britain” line, following its HUO coal hopper range, and has been built with a selection of prototype‑specific tools to reflect different stages of the class’s operational life.
Livery information
Six locomotives were announced for the first production run.
- 58016 – Railfreight Coal
Finished in Triple Grey Coal Sector livery with depot plaque and later service alterations.
- 58017 – Mainline Freight Triple Grey
Named "Eastleigh Depot", it represents the shift from sectorisation to privatisation while retaining the Triple Grey colours and Mainline branding.
- 58023 – Mainline Freight Blue
Represents the preserved locomotive in Mainline Freight Aircraft Blue livery. It is currently the only operational Class 58 in Britain.
- 58040 – Railfreight Red Stripe
Named "Cottam Power Station", this second‑batch locomotive includes both experimental and standard exhaust silencers used during its career.
- 58042 – Railfreight Coal
Named "Ironbridge Power Station", it depicts a Coal Sector‑era locomotive during peak heavy freight operations.
- 58046 – Mainline Freight Blue
Finished as "Asfordby Mine" in Mainline Freight Aircraft Blue livery.
