Clayton DHP1
We proudly announce that we intend to produce the Clayton DHP1. It was a demonstrator ordered by Rolls Royce to showcase their engines and hydraulic transmission, with help from Col Fell of 10100 Fell Loco fame. Clayton modified the Class 17 drawings to suit the requirement as they were designed around the same time, although the 17 was about 4 feet longer, but the general layout was identical, testing didn’t go to plan and it was soon relegated to works shunter for the final 2 Class 17’s being built (the 2 with Rolls Royce engines).

KR Models Clayton DHP1 BR Green Diesel Locomotive – DCC fitted
The model carries the part number KRM-DHP-OO-F-GREEN and represents a British Railways late‑crest locomotive. It reproduces the Clayton DHP1 demonstrator that Rolls‑Royce commissioned to exhibit their diesel engines and hydraulic transmission, with design input from Col Fell of 10100 Fell Loco fame. Clayton adapted the Class 17 drawings for this project; the prototype was intended for testing but was later used as a works shunter for the final two Class 17s built with Rolls‑Royce power units.
Key features of the KR Models version include a 21‑pin DCC socket with easy access to directional LED lighting, a heavy die‑cast metal chassis with a central motor and flywheels for enhanced performance, and separately fitted wire handrails and sandpipes. The model also incorporates etched grilles, sprung buffers, and flush glazing, providing a detailed and robust representation of the original locomotive.
