Prototype Era
Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest
In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.
In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line, numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted 22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.
In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.
We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD double‑deck electric multiple unit (EMU) is offered as a four‑car set, representing the 4002/4902 running numbers in British Railways late‑crest green livery with small yellow end panels. The kit is supplied with the manufacturer part number KRM‑4DD‑OO‑F‑2‑G1 and is fitted with digital command control (DCC). Interior lighting is provided for all four cars.
The model reflects the period of the late 1940s to early 1970s, when the original Bulleid units were built to alleviate overcrowding on suburban services to and from London. Two prototype units (4001 and 4002) entered service in 1949 and remained in operation for 22 years, being withdrawn on 1 October 1971. In 1970 the units were repainted in BR blue and renumbered 4901 and 4902.
Each four‑car pack contains two powered cars and two trailer cars. All cars feature close coupling, steel buffers and internal illumination. The range is available in full green, green with small yellow ends and BR blue. Options include DCC‑ready, DCC‑fitted and DCC sound with LokSound V5.0.
