Hornby British Railways Mark 3 Driving Van Trailer (DVT), model number 82116, is an OO‑scale (1:76) representation of the British Rail Engineering Limited DVT built between 1988 and 1990. The model is painted in a grey Swallow livery, carries the running number 82116 and is supplied with a DCC‑ready 8‑pin socket. Power is collected via all wheels and the coupling system is NEM with a tension lock.
The model measures 246 mm in length and can negotiate a minimum curve of the second radius, 438 mm. It is fitted with a painted finish and the standard British Rail operator branding. The coach type is the British Railways Mark 3 and the design is credited to BREL. The manufacturer part number is R4996.
The real Mk 3 DVT is a purpose‑built control car that enables a driver to operate a locomotive from the opposite end of a train, working with Mark 2D, E and F coaches as well as Mark 3 stock. A total of 52 DVTs were constructed for British Rail during the sectorisation era, and examples remain in service today.
