Hornby Virgin Trains Mk3 First Open (FO) model number 11097 is an OO‑scale, 303 mm long coach in a pristine red and black Virgin West Coast livery. It represents a British Railways Mark 3 first‑open carriage, built by BREL at Derby between 1975 and 1988, with part number R4857. The model features BT10 bogies, a minimum curve of radius 2, and the running number 11097, matching the original coach used by Virgin Trains.

The model depicts a coach from the period of the initial privatisation of British rail, when Virgin Rail Group took over the Inter City West Coast franchise on 9 March 1997. At that time the operator inherited British Rail Mark II and Mark III coaching stock, including Driving Van Trailers and High Speed Train sets, which were employed on West Coast Main Line electric services and the London Euston to Holyhead HST routes.
