Hornby Era 3 model of Southern Railway 2‑BIL electric multiple unit, representing unit 2152. The model is ready for DCC operation with an 8‑pin socket and is supplied in OO gauge. It features a 5‑pole skew wound motor, power pickup via the power bogie only, and a pristine olive green finish.
Key specifications: length 510 mm, wheel arrangement Bo‑Bo, maximum speed 60 mph, minimum curve radius 438 mm (2nd radius). The locomotive is identified with running number 2152 and carries DMBT(L) No. 10718 and DTC(L) No. 12185. Manufacturer part number is R3700.
Historically the real unit 2152 was the last of the 2‑BIL series, delivered in November 1938 for the London Waterloo to Reading route. Built between 1935 and 1938, the class of 152 units was designed by Richard Maunsell for the Southern Railway and served until withdrawal from British Rail on 4 April 1970, after which the car was stored at Lancing and later moved to Selhurst for stripping. The model represents the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
