The Class 60s were the last heavy haulers built for BR. No.60069 was allocated to BR’s Train Load Freight (TLF) Coal Sector and named ‘Humphrey Davy’, in honour of the inventor of the miner’s safety lamp.
Following the break-up of TLF, the Class 60s were divided between three of the shadow franchises: Mainline Freight, Loadhaul and Transrail Freight, but not long after they were formed they were absorbed into English, Welsh & Scottish (EWS). By 2007, it was estimated that the operational fleet was down to just 60 locomotives, the rest either in store or undergoing repair. That year, EWS was acquired by DB Schenker, a wholly-owned subsidiary of German railway company, Deutche Bahn.
Our RailRoad Class 60 model represents 'Humphrey Davy' in detail, but with added features that make for a much more durable locomotive.

* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Hornby RailRoad TLF Coal Sector Class 60 ‘Humphrey Davy’ 60069 is a die‑cast model locomotive, supplied under manufacturer part number R30536. The model represents the rebuilding era of the British railways and depicts locomotive number 60069 as it appeared in the Train Load Freight (TLF) Coal Sector.
Class 60 locomotives were the final heavy‑haul engines built for British Rail. No. 60069 was named ‘Humphrey Davy’ after the inventor of the miner’s safety lamp. After the breakup of TLF the Class 60s were divided among the shadow freight franchises Mainline Freight, Loadhaul and Transrail Freight, before being consolidated under English, Welsh & Scottish (EWS). By 2007 the operational fleet had fallen to around 60 units, and that year EWS was acquired by DB Schenker, a subsidiary of the German railway company Deutsche Bahn.
The Hornby RailRoad model reproduces ‘Humphrey Davy’ with detailed markings and includes reinforced components to improve durability for repeated handling. It is intended for display and play within the period of railway rebuilding.
