Era 10 (2005 to 2015) Rebuilding of the Railways
The Hornby Class 153 No. 153360 is finished in the distinctive Northern Rail livery, representing its appearance during regular service in the north of England. It is DCC ready with a 21-pin decoder socket for easy digital upgrade and fitted with NEM couplings.
History
The Northern Rail franchise commenced in December 2004 and inherited its fleet from those of Arriva Trains Northern and First North Western, including a large number of Class 153 single units, of which No. 153360 was one.
Under Northern Rail, the unit saw considerable use in the Carlisle area, including services on the Settle and Carlisle line and the Cumbria coastal line to Barrow-in-Furness.
Arriva Rail North, Northern Rail’s successor from 2016, operated the largest fleet of Class 153 units in the UK. No. 153360 went into storage in late 2021 and was subsequently scrapped.

The prototype unit entered service under the Northern Rail franchise in December 2004, after the franchise inherited the fleet from Arriva Trains Northern and First North Western. While operating for Northern Rail, the unit was based around Carlisle, serving the Settle and Carlisle line and the Cumbria coastal line to Barrow‑in‑Furness. From 2016 the successor franchise, Arriva Rail North, ran the largest fleet of Class 153 units in the United Kingdom. The real‑world vehicle was placed in storage in late 2021 and subsequently scrapped.
