THIS MODEL IS UNPOWERED BUT THEY WILL STILL RETAIN PICKUPS, LIGHTING AND DCC INTERFACE TO ALLOW EASY INSTALLATION OF SOUND

 

The model represents the final development of the 478 Derby/Sulzer Type 2s, which started with Class 24 in the late-1950s. This model will cover the D5238-99 and D7500-D7677 batches, built by Derby Works and Beyer, Peacock of Manchester between December 1963 and April 1967.

For the first time, models will also be offered as the famous Scottish Region ‘ETHEL’ (Electric Train Heating Ex-Locomotive) train heating units converted from Class 25/3s as a short-term solution prior to the delivery of Class 37/4s in 1985. These machines later found work with InterCity’s Charter Unit, lasting into the 1990s.

The new HELJAN Class 25/3 will feature our renowned high-performance chassis with all-wheel pick-up, illuminated headcode panels and marker lights, a 21-pin DCC decoder interface and provision for DCC sound.

Note: These models are un-motorized, the pickups power the directional tail lights and cab lights. There are no headlights as they would not of been used on the prototype.

The Heljan Class 25/3 Intercity ‘ETHEL3’ (running number ABD97252) is an OO‑scale, un‑powered model of a British Rail Class 25 diesel locomotive. It is presented in the Intercity livery with a pristine finish and includes a 21‑pin DCC socket, directional lighting, NEM couplings and all‑wheel power pick‑up for the tail and cab lights. The model retains the DCC interface to allow the later addition of sound.

It represents the final development of the Derby/Sulzer Type 2 series, covering the D5238‑99 and D7500‑D7677 batches built between 12 Dec 1963 and 30 Apr 1967 by Derby Works and Beyer, Peacock of Manchester. The locomotive originally served British Rail InterCity, with a maximum speed of 90 mph, a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius).

Heljan also offers this locomotive as the Scottish Region ‘ETHEL’ (Electric Train Heating Ex‑Locomotive) unit, a short‑term conversion used before the arrival of Class 37/4s in 1985 and later employed by the InterCity Charter Unit into the 1990s.

Key specifications: 200 mm length, built by Crewe, Darlington and Derby Works, total production of 327 units, service period 1961‑1987, used for both freight and passenger traffic across all regions. The model includes sprung buffers, chain and NEM couplings, detailed exterior and interior cab features and provision for DCC sound.
