The Class 143 Diesel Multiple Unit was part of British Rail’s Second Generation DMU fleet. Known as ‘Pacers’, along with the Class 141, 142 and 144s, the Class 143s were introduced by British Rail in the mid-1980s at a time when it was replacing its ageing fleet of first generation DMUs. Operating until 2021, this EFE Rail model depicts unit No. 143608 in revised Arriva Trains Wales livery with weathered finish.

EFE Rail Class 143 2‑Car DMU (model 143608) is an OO‑scale replica of a British Rail Class 143 “Pacer”. The model represents unit No. 143608 in the revised Arriva Trains Wales two‑tone turquoise livery with a weathered finish. It depicts the two cars numbered 55649 and 55674 and includes destination blinds for Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale.

The model measures 420 mm in length and is DCC‑ready, featuring a Next18 decoder socket and a 3‑pole motor with flywheel. It is fitted with NEM couplings, directional exterior lighting, interior lighting, a speaker, and the standard accessory pack. Interior detailing is modelled, and the kit includes NEM coupling pockets.

The real Class 143 diesel multiple unit was introduced by British Rail in the mid‑1980s as part of the second‑generation DMU fleet, known collectively as “Pacers”. Only 25 were built; they remained in service until 2021, operating mainly on regional routes in Wales and the north of England.
