Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
Cattle wagons were made in large numbers and were a common sight on rail in all parts of the country until their use was eclipsed by the use of specialised road vehicles. After their obsolescence, the ones that were in a fit enough state were often converted into ale vans for the conveyance of beer.
The Dapol model of the cattle van is based on the GWR design, of which over 1300 were built.

The Dapol Cattle Wagon model GWR 13825 is a scale representation of a cattle wagon used by the Great Western Railway. The model is designed to operate on curves with a minimum radius of 1 unit.
The prototype cattle wagons were a common sight on British railways during the Big Four era, with over 1300 being built. They were eventually replaced by road vehicles but some were converted into ale vans for transporting beer.
The Dapol model features a highly detailed body moulding, profiled wheels, and NEM pockets with self-centring couplings. The livery has been accurately applied.
