Manufacturer description

Ventilated vans were the primary way of transporting perishable goods quickly and efficiently, yet maintaining goods in peak condition. All four pre-nationalised companies had their own design of ventilated van, but shared the same principals of design; a wooden body with ventilators allowing a constant flow and circulation of fresh air around the cargo. Dapol have modelled two varieties; the GWR type with its wooden planked ends and the LMS type with its steel corrugated end. Both these vans were in use right up to the 1960’s and several survive into preservation.

Dapol Ventilated Van model BR B768117, in a weathered bauxite finish, is a 00 gauge replica of a British Railways early‑crest ventilated van. The manufacturer part number is 4F‑012‑030 and the model represents the period up to the 1960s.

Ventilated vans were used by the four pre‑nationalisation railway companies to transport perishable goods, featuring wooden bodies with ventilators that provided a constant flow of fresh air around the cargo. Dapol has produced two variants: a GWR type with wooden planked ends and an LMS type with steel corrugated ends. Both types remained in service until the 1960s and examples survive in preservation.

The Dapol model includes a finely moulded body, accurately applied livery and printed details, profiled wheels, NEM pockets and self‑centring couplings.
