Exclusive to Rails of Sheffield
The British Rail Class 88 is a type of mainline mixed traffic electro-diesel locomotive manufactured by Stadler Rail for Direct Rail Services (DRS) in the United Kingdom. The locomotive is part of the Stadler Euro Dual family. It is the first dual-mode locomotive in the UK to use the 25 kV AC electrification.
Amid the fulfillment of DRS' order for the Class 68, Stadler's team proposed the development of a dual-mode locomotive that could be alternatively powered by an onboard diesel engine or via electricity supplied from overhead lines (OHLE). Having been impressed by the concept, DRS opted to place an order for ten Class 88s during September 2013. Having been developed alongside the Class 68, considerable similarities are shared between the two locomotives, amounting to roughly 70 percent of all components being shared.
Features Include:* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Dapol Class 88 ‘Electra’ 88007 is a limited‑edition DRS electro‑diesel locomotive model, issued exclusively by Rails of Sheffield. The kit carries the manufacturer part number 4D‑088‑003D and represents the current era of the British Rail Class 88. It is supplied with interior lighting and a fitted DCC decoder; the DCC fitting service is not applicable. The model is a prototype version.
The real British Rail Class 88 is a main‑line mixed‑traffic electro‑diesel locomotive built by Stadler Rail for Direct Rail Services. It belongs to the Stadler Euro Dual family and is the first UK dual‑mode locomotive to utilise 25 kV AC overhead electrification. Following the success of DRS’s Class 68 order, Stadler proposed a dual‑mode design and DRS placed an order for ten units in September 2013. About 70 percent of the components are shared with the Class 68.
Model features include a finely moulded die‑cast body with separate fine details, authentic liveries, printed and etched nameplates, sprung buffers and NEM coupling pockets as standard. The chassis and all‑wheel drive are heavy die‑cast, driven by a smooth 5‑pole motor with twin flywheels. Wheels are cast with fine relief and appropriate colouring, and the kit incorporates the latest Plux22 decoder socket.
The model offers comprehensive lighting: white marker and headlights, red tail lights, halo lights (DCC only) and cab lights, all independently controllable in DCC and switchable in DC. The pantograph is servo‑controlled in DCC mode and posable in DC. An optional sound module provides authentic electric and diesel sounds, selectable via a function key.
