MODEL FEATURES:
V1/V3 TANK HISTORY
The LNER Class V1 and V3 were two classes of 2-6-2T steam locomotives designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. Eighty-two V1s were built, 71 being rebuilt into the V3s. An additional ten were built as V3s from the final batch of V1s. Developing the V3 from the V1 gave it an increased boiler pressure and thus increased its tractive effort. During the Second World War, a number were transferred to help with heavy wartime loads from the Royal Ordnance Factory at Thorp Arch near Wetherby until the end of the war. The V1 and V3s were hard working engines suited to the suburban workings. The withdrawal of both classes began in 1960, the V1s by 1962 and the V3s by 1964. None of either class survived to be preserved.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Bachmann model of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) V3 tank locomotive in LNER Lined Black livery is a new addition to the Bachmann Branchline range. This OO scale model features a detailed and accurate bodyshell, a high-performance chassis driven by a five-pole motor, and a Next18 DCC decoder socket.
The model is representative of the LNER Class V3, a class of 2-6-2T steam locomotives designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. The V3s were developed from the V1 class, with an increased boiler pressure and tractive effort. A total of ten V3s were built between 1939 and 1940, and they were used for suburban workings and wartime loads. The V3s were withdrawn from service between 1960 and 1964.
The model is DCC-ready and has a Next18 socket, allowing for easy installation of a decoder. It also features a powerful five-pole motor, sprung buffers, and NEM coupling pockets. The model is 174mm in length and is available with an accessory pack.
