'What if' NSE livery for KR Models 4-DD

KR Models has unveiled a fresh interpretation of its ‘OO’ gauge BR Southern Region 4-DD double‑deck electric multiple unit (HM223), now finished in a Network SouthEast theme that it never actually carried in service.

These vehicles were built in the late 1940s, the two 4-DDs designed to boost capacity on commuter routes. Conceived by Oliver Bulleid and assembled at Lancing Works, each set could carry 122 more passengers than a conventional four‑car suburban EMU. They were authorised to run between Charing Cross and Dartford, and, although their impact was modest, they stayed in revenue service until late 1971.

The new NSE special edition 4-DD units feature model numbers 4901 finished in the authentic livery, giving a visual idea of how they might have looked had they survived into the Sectorisation era.

Both a DCC Ready and a DCC Sound‑fitted version of the four‑car unit are available, priced at £375 and £475 respectively.
