Record-breaking model railway to be displayed at Vale of Rheidol

Published Tuesday 15 July 2025

The Vale of Rheidol Railway at Aberystwyth is set to host a record-breaking model railway, courtesy of Pete Waterman, from October 25th to November 2nd. This Guinness World Record-holding layout, measuring 208ft, will be on display for the second time since achieving the record in April 2024.

Visitors will have the opportunity to operate parts of the model railway using tablets, making it an interactive experience. The layout features stock from multiple eras, celebrating Rail 200. In the evenings, the model railway will be transformed into a Halloween-themed display.

Pete Waterman expressed his delight in bringing the record-breaking layout to Wales: "I am delighted to be bringing our World Record holding layout to Wales and the Vale of Rheidol railway at Aberystwyth in October. This will be the first time we've taken the 208ft railway out since achieving the World Record in April 2024, so I'm really looking forward to running it again and this time allowing people to have a go on it as well. Mae'n mynd i fod yn anhygoel!"

Tickets and further information can be found at the Vale of Rheidol Railway website.
